Victor J. Atherton
Victor J Atherton, 79 years old, died peacefully on Friday October 18th, 2024 at his home in Palm Bay, FL. He was born January 14th, 1945 in Swannanoa, NC, the son of Fairfax M. Atherton Jr and Betty Lee Miller.
Vic spent the majority of his life in Florida, first with his parents and brother Blair in Palm Beach and later with his wife Christine (who he married June 15th 1974) and his children in Miami and Palm Bay.
Vic served as a Captain in the Army Medical Service Corps. He then worked for his father’s AC repair company as a Journeyman A/C Technician. After getting another degree in Mechanical Engineering from FIU, he started his career at the University of Miami. He worked his way up to become Assistant VP for Facilities and Administration.
Vic loved boating and fishing as well as camping trips in the family’s truck camper. He was an avid football fan and especially loved watching his Miami Hurricanes play at the Orange Bowl and later from his recliner at home. Vic was a wonderful husband and father. Family was always his top priority. He had a passion for music of all kinds and a great sense of humor. He was loved and respected by so many both personally and professionally.
Vic is survived by his loving wife, Christine; daughters, Cassie, Jennie and Melissa; as well as his son, Brian. He is also survived by his 5 grandchildren, Landon, Jamison, Christian, Jaiden and Jorden and his brother Blair.
A Catholic Funeral Mass will be held on October 30, 2024 @ St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Barefoot Bay. Internment and Celebration of Life to follow @ Fountainhead Memorial Park in Palm Bay.
